Coasters

  • Vanitas Red Coasters

Suzanne Anker, Vanitas (in a Petri dish) Coasters, Red

Presented as colorful coasters, these artworks are a reminder of the continuum of life’s vivid expressions and death’s inevitable decay. In prior centuries, Vanitas paintings warned against the excesses of material culture. Here, the viewer is presented with images of flowers, insects, and fruits, which vanish over time. As simple warnings about the delicacy of life and the manner in which the elements of earth can be transformed, we pause at our own mortality.

Red set with four unique coasters, 4” x 4” each.
