Vanitas (in a Petri dish) Coasters

Suzanne Anker, a Bio Art pioneer, visual artist and theorist, releases a new edition of her photographic series Vanitas (in a Petri dish).

Presented as colorful coasters, these artworks are a reminder of the continuum of life’s vivid expressions and death’s inevitable decay. In prior centuries, Vanitas paintings warned against the excesses of material culture. Here, the viewer is presented with images of flowers, insects, and fruits, which vanish over time. As simple warnings about the delicacy of life and the manner in which the elements of earth can be transformed, we pause at our own mortality.

Two different box sets, each with four unique coasters, are available for purchase. Coasters have a high-gloss finish and cork backing. Each coaster measures 4” x 4”.
